Hawks x heineken

custom basketballs

Location: Atlanta, GA

In preparation for the 2024 season, ABV Agency worked together with the Atlanta Hawks and Heineken to organize the creation of three unique custom recycled basketballs, each designed by a local Atlanta artist. Sponsored by Heineken, the main goal of this project was to raise awareness of sustainability and encourage attendees to participate in the recycling kiosks at the Hawks Stadium.

We engaged three local artists – Drew Borders, Yoyocam, and Aziza Andre – to each paint a recycled basketball, drawing inspiration from the city of Atlanta and the Hawks team. The result was the creation of three extremely unique designs.

Drew Borders, an animator, illustrator, and muralist based in Atlanta, strives to represent people of color and raise awareness about social issues in her work. For her basketball, Drew used her signature illustrative style, incorporating the iconic 404 area codes to pay homage to Atlanta.

Yoyocam, a muralist known for his focus on characters ranging from creature drawings to gaming-inspired murals, centered his project theme on "Life as we fly." He showcased the hawk mid-flight and designed his ball to exude high energy, mirroring the intensity of the team during a game.

Aziza Andre, an Atlanta-based creative specialist skilled in graphic design, illustration, art direction, and murals, is passionate about exploring sequential art such as comics and graphic novels to inspire her work. For this project, Aziza chose to focus on Earth Month as her general theme, covering the ball in leaves to promote sustainability and encourage a focus on protecting the Earth.

Following the sweepstakes - these custom basketballs were each awarded to the fans who recycled the most cans and other products within the stadium!
